1st Step/Disper-Sul
Soil Acidifier
1st STEP/Disper-sul Plus
Iron and Manganese is an essential part of your gardening, the
foundation of your success and the most effective and successful soil
amendment for the Southwest!
The Southwest Challenge - hard soil
and alkalinity
Gardening demands the balancing of the
environment. Desert soils are high clay, high calcium, and high sodium. They
are extremely hard and impermeable to water. Nutrients are locked up in the
soil and not accessible to plant roots. Before doing anything, it is
necessary to open up and balance your soil. Without this preparation, water
is wasted, and nutrients (either already in your soil, or from fertilizers)
are less available.
If you see any of these symptoms,
then you need a soil acidifier!
- Retarded or slow growth
- Yellowing of leaves between veins
- Scorched appearance or burn around leaf
margins and on tips
- Drainage problems, where water is slow
to penetrate and puddles remain around the plant or turf
1st STEP/Disper-sul Plus Iron and
Manganese is a natural soil acidifier that dissolves caliche and
neutralizes alkaline soils. Acidification liberates major and minor
nutrients so that they become more available to plants without harming
micro-bio action. It also improves drainage, water penetration and water
holding capacity. As a result, plants green faster and your watering is
optimized.
- Use only on alkaline soils (pH above
7.0); Desired PH level: 6.5 - 7
- Under most Southwest alkaline
conditions, use preventatively 2 to 3 times a year. For very alkaline
soil, or areas where the water is very salty, use 3 times a year, for
example: in March, June and August
- Use any month of the year to correct
problems
- Use in the planting process; mix with
mulch and soil when planting
- If problem persists, a soil test is
recommended. Consult your horticulturist
Application Rates
Apply dry and follow with a thorough DEEP and
SLOW watering to dissolve the product, making certain that moisture reaches
the root zone. IMPORTANT: KEEP GRANULES OFF PLANT LEAVES.
Product on wet leaves could cause burning.

Product
Specifications
1st Step/Disper-Sul with
Iron & Manganese is a water degradable granular soil
acidifier for use as a soil additive. Upon contact
with soil moisture, the product readily degrades
into small particles which are then oxidized to the
sulfate form.
What Sulfur Does
Corrects soil pH; helps increase availability of
iron; increases utilization of NPK; improves plant
hardiness; improves thatch decomposition; improves
resistance to some plant diseases, such as fusarium
patch; improves water utilization and penetration.
What Iron Does
Iron is required for the formation of chlorophyll
in plants. Chlorophyll manufactures the food
required for plant growth. The availability of iron
to the plant is influenced by the amount of other
nutrients in the soil, such as manganese,
phosphorous, calcium, and particularly by soil pH.
What Manganese Does
Manganese serves as an activator for several
growth processes and assists iron in chlorophyll
formation. It is also involved in the breakdown of
carbohydrates and organic fluids and aids in
nitrogen metabolism.
